1. Clean the Optical Sensor Lens
The most common cause of tracking loss is physical debris blocking the mouse sensor's camera lens. A single hair, dust particle, or piece of fabric can disrupt the sensor's optical engine, causing it to lose tracking stability and spin out.
- Turn your mouse upside down and locate the sensor opening.
- Use a can of compressed air or a gentle bulb blower to clear any loose dust.
- Dampen a cotton swab with a tiny drop of isopropyl alcohol (90%+) and gently clean the glass lens. Avoid applying heavy pressure.
2. Match Your Mousepad Texture
Optical mouse sensors track movement by taking thousands of microscopic photos of your mousepad surface. If the surface is too reflective, highly colored, or dirty, the sensor fails to register the texture differences.
